For some reason I don't get to watch movies too often anymore. I don't really get to the theater to often anymore since my last experience was pretty awful (The last Indiana Jones movie which I found to be about just as good as the other one had little kids jumping and prancing around and yelling) and the NBA playoffs are on. I viewed a really good movie yesterday about a strange kid who befriended a vampire and ended up falling in love with her. No it wasn't Twilight but a movie called Let The Right One In.
I don't want to get too into the movie since I think it is best for you to experience it yourself without knowing too much going in but I must say that it is an intelligent movie for adults that touches on many interesting issues. I hope it finds a bigger audience here in America before what will only be the shitty American remake comes out (which has been announced).
There were two things that I took away from the movie. The first one was how cool it would be if my girlfriend was a vampire. We could hang out all night and I would have the day to myself. IF anyone fucked with me she could use her vampire powers to fuck them up. In todays world it would probably be easy for me to secure blood for her so she doesn't have to go around killing people. I would never have to go to Olive Garden. As long as she promises not to bite me I don't really see any downside to the relationship.
The second thing I took away from this movie was that it reinforced a rule I used to follow but over the years I've become very lax with. If someone comes to my house and makes a big deal about me inviting them in I do not invite them in. Vampires can only come into your house if you invite them. Do you know how many vampires I've invited into my house probably most of them being pizza deliverymen (only order a pizza from Papa Johns during the day trust me)? I'm surprised I haven't been turned all ready. And the worst part about inviting a vampire into your house is that the Vampire Test would be ineffective on them.
But really you should check out this movie. It moves a little slower compared to most American horror films because that is the way things typical go in these European movies but it has many compelling themes and situations in it. Another reason why I could find it hard for people to get into is the fact that not everything is explicit spelled out for you and some of the scenes and relationships are purposely left ambiguous(the book the movie is based off of is a lot more clearer). Its hard to actually discuss without giving anything away which is why you should go see this movie right now so we can talk about it.
